7 Day Art Challenge: March
An art marathon for all creative types!
I love participating in art marathons, projects, and retreats. For a while I’ve wanted to create a proper art challenge that other people could join me in online. I’ve taken my favorite things about these time specific challenges and created the 7 Day Art Challenge.
You are invited to join me for a week long art slam!
The rule of this challenge are simple:
Start a new project every day.
A new painting. A new drawing. A new illustration. A new fiber craft. A new collage. Whatever you want.
In this challenge: finishing the project is a perk, but not the end goal. We are here to break the creative block. By making new starts every day for a week you are challenging yourself to let go of perfectionism and the need to finish. You will begin to let go of the small stuff and the effectiveness of each mark you make, each movement of your craft, will compound.
No matter what kind of maker you define yourself by - this is a challenge that will work for you.
Here’s the week break down:
Day 0: Declare yourself! State on your social page that you are joining the challenge! Other participants will be encouraged to help keep you accountable throughout the week. Follow other artists who are doing the challenge and share the page with your artsy friends to spread the word!
Day 1: Get Prepared! Take this first day of the challenge to stack the deck in your favor so that you can have a successful week of art making. What that means for me as a painter: prepping canvases, doing sketches, picking colors, making sure my space is clean and ready for work. Most importantly- block out time each day this week where you know that you will be able to work on your art.
If you are feeling extra ambitious- Start a your first piece this day!
Day 2: Makers Gonna Make This is the first day of creating (unless you got a head start the day before) Harness the excitement you feel this first day and pick the most attractive project that you planned out the day before to start. At the end of the day take a picture of what you started (and maybe finished?) and tag @7dayartchallenge so I can share what everyone is working on in my stories!
Day 3: Start Again You will be very tempted to finish what you made yesterday but you must resist! Today is for starting anew! More starts = more creativity. Go forth and start again.
Day 4: Support Others After you’ve made your second start, it’s time to engage with your fellow challengers! Go to their pages and comment on what they are working on - Spread the positivity :D Be sure to tag me in your stories so I can share what you are making!
Day 5: Re-evaluate Before you begin your next start- take a moment to reflect. Is this challenge working for you as you planned at the beginning of the week? Do you need to change your plans to be successful? This is your permission to be flexible!
Be sure to post in your stories today about what you are working on and if you changed anything. I’ll share it with all the other participants if you tag me!
Day 6: Bring The Fire Holy cats you’ve made it to day 6 and the end is in sight! Do you feel your creative energy igniting? Let’s spread the creative fire around by commenting on each others work with a fire emoji!
Day 7: Victory! Finish strong on the last day of the challenge! Take the last start by the creative horns and don’t let up! Six starts in 7 days is a huge achievement and you are remarkable for getting here.
After: Compile pictures of everything you started and share with the world! Then this is the exciting part: Look at all the pieces you started and choose which ones are worthy of your time to finish! If you participated in the challenge and finished something you started during it- I’d love to share it on the Instagram page :D
Currently, this is an instagram based challenge. Here’s the link: https://www.instagram.com/7dayartchallenge/ If you aren’t on instagram or don’t want to share with everyone- feel free to do the challenge on your own :)
Happy creating!
