Every once in a while after I complete a commission I receive a photo of the painting hung up in it’s forever home. I made this one for my childhood friend Whitney for over her bed and it looks so good!
Living on the internet, it’s easy to see perfectly cropped images of paintings and get a sense of it as a stand alone. But to see a painting in a space it’s totally different.
Remember when we could go to the Seattle Art Museum? Those were the days! Looking at Jacob Lawerence’s “The Studio” online is great, but in person- WOW.
The energy of this painting is so different as a 30x22 inch gouace painting rather than a 2x3 inch picture on your phone. In person you can use all of your senses to experience a painting, and I miss that.
I miss showing my work in place people can go see it and I miss going to the art museum. But alas! I’ll just keep making more art to show you in the future. ;)
Take a moment today to look at the artwork in your home and feel the energy it’s putting out in the afternoon light. Perhaps it has something important to say <3
