Facing The Blank Canvas
Ever feel paralyzed by not knowing what to say, to paint, to create? Ever have a blank canvas, a blank audio file, a blank sheet of music staring at you with no creativity in sight? This episode is for you!
Your guide to facing the blank canvas:
Acknowledge that It’s super normal to feel intimidated by a blank canvas.
You aren’t the first to feel this way, you wont be the last.
You MUST create SOMETHING
Letting the blank canvas stay blank is the WORST thing you can do. It’s a bad habit like an infection.
Mess it up!!!
Make a silly mark on the first page, scribble on the canvas, lay a ground- wreck it!
Make a pre-creativity ritual
Tea time is my favorite! Need some looseleaf tea for yourself? Use code CHEERS10 at fridaytea.com for 10% off your whole order.
Clean your space!
A clean space leads to a clean mind for making new art
Warm up your body
Taking care of your physical self lets you protect your creativity years down the line.
Break down your idea into its smallest one-sitting-task
Can you do one of the creative checklist items in an hour?
If yes, do it
If no, break down the step even further.
Make your list of imperfections and weaknesses
Be as detailed as possible in the things you want to improve and strengthen your art work.
Then pick one item and do it.
Take a break
Do something that seems very different than art making, you will get inspired.
Take notes of your ideas as they come to you.
Experiment
Pull out materials you don’t normally work with and play!
